Dear Mr. Dickens: a paper, a pen, and something to say, with author Nancy Churnin
Nancy Churnin is my guest today - she has just published the award winning children's book "Dear Mr. Dickens". Beautifully illustrated, It tells the powerful story of Eliza Davis, a Jewish woman who wrote letters to Charles Dickens asking him to change how he wrote Jewish characters in his novel. We talk about her book and the importance of using your voice and the power that words can have. Eliza may not be as well known as Dickens, but they both had the same tools - paper, a pen, and something to say!
This interview is longer than my usual ones go, but I think it will be worth the time. Nancy Churnin has so much to say about the issues of representation, the power our words can have, and encouraging everyone to speak up. And of course, we talk at great lengths about our love for Dickens' stories. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did in recording it.
